from the performer of out of time :
"In 2006, when Edward and I finally met up again after many years, I was very interested to know whether he had recently written anything for piano solo. And, happily, the answer was yes: 'Out of Time'. Being familiar with his own prodigious piano skills and compositional style since our student days at California Institute of the Arts, I was intrigued and immediately decided to learn the new piece, sight unseen. What could be more revealing in exploring a piece of music than the opportunity of working directly with its composer? 'Out of Time' was a welcome and immediate addition to my repertoire. I enjoyed the whole process of learning this work, as the composer’s intentions are implicit in the language of the music, and the technical challenges always reflect the emotional content. Each piece lends itself to a variety of nuance in interpretation while maintaining line, form, and structure. I enjoy the feeling of being able to improvise within the notated framework. And Edward’s writing in these miniatures is superbly pianistic - no surprise! So, when I was choosing the works for my CD 'PersonalTouch', recorded in 2014, it was with great pleasure and satisfaction that I included 'Out of Time', without question. One of the reasons in choosing the album title was my personal connection to the three contemporary composers whose works are among the repertoire selections. Therefore, I hope that the music of Edward Zeliff will reach as wide an audience as possible."
